Greetings!
GO PURE needs your help! We have a benefit
performance show lined up for February 17, 2007 and due to a series of
unfortunate events, including most recently Greywolf and Bhrigha and their
family being hit by the tornadoes that ripped through DeLand, FL the day
after their anniversary, there has been little time to promote this event.
We want the show to go on and raise money for Journey's End Animal Shelter
in Glenwood, FL, but we need an audience! Please buy your tickets online
and tell all your friends to buy theirs too. We have a fabulous line-up for
the show, a great space, and we need to put this all together and get an
audience in a week! See below for more details.

Come join GO PURE!
In our first year of existance, GO PURE helped
raise close to $11,000 for non-profit corporations. The goal of PURE is to
raise awareness of peace and healing through dance and rhythm, raise money
for non-profits, and create a nice strong bond between group members. We
have a wonderful group, but we'd love to grow more. If you've been thinking
about coming out to see what GO PURE is all about, after our show on
February 17 is a great time to come check us out! There are no auditions to
join, however, we ask that whether you are a dancer or a drummer, that you
be at an intermediate level - dancers need the basic foundation of
bellydance moves and drummers need basic hand technique on drums and that
you know several Middle Eastern rhythms: beledi, malfuf, masmoudi, and
chiftetelli. We have handouts for dancers and drummers and a great group of
people to work with! And we can always use volunteers at our events -
photographers, people to carry supplies, space clearers, etc. Please
contact one of our facilitators to let us know you want to attend rehearsal
- we can give you directions and it helps us plan what to do in rehearsal.
So GO PURE and join us!

Drummers
every Wednesday in February.
7:30 pm - 8:45 pm at Avanti Dance Studio in College Park (just
north of downtown O-town) 1828 Edgewater Drive Orlando, FL 32804 just south
of Starbuck's, on the opposite side of the street.

have a background in drum or dance and want to participate! If you want to
learn to dance or drum, we can refer you to Beginner classes.
Dues:
Dues for February are $8. Once you have paid your dues, you may
attend any or all of the rehearsals in Orlando & DeLand.
DeLand rehearsals are on hold right now. Please come to the

Introducing our New Drum
Co-Facilitator
Over the last month or so, Mark DeMaio has really
stepped up to the plate to help with co-facilitating the drummers of GO
PURE. With everything that Greywolf and Bhrigha have been going through
lately, GO PURE has really been relying on their dance co-facilitators and
now they have another drum co-facilitator in Mark. Mark loves to drum and
has been studying drumming since about 2000; he also has an interesting
background in a variety of things. He taught English as a second language
in Korea and while there he studied some Korean drumming as well as
introduced some of his students to drumming through Layne Redmond's book:
When the Drummers Were Women and also Greywolf and Bhrigha's
Jammin' Handbook. The concept of female drummers was very new and
empowering to some of his female students. Mark is also a published
photographer and a freelance production assistant for the film industry. He
is very excited about being a co-facilitator for Go PURE!
In GO PURE, we are lucky to have about 5 regular drummers who
participate in rehearsals and performances. We are very blessed because
some PURE chapters have no drummers and rely on recorded music. Now we have
another drum co-facilitator and rest assured, that GO PURE will continue on
even after Greywolf and Bhrigha finally move out of state.

PURE stands for: Public Urban Ritual Experiment. Please click on
the link above to go to the main PURE website for details, video clips, and
pictures.
How will you change the world with your dance?
PURE expanding the boundaries of sacred world dance; encouraging
action and awareness through dance; taking your place in the conscious
global community.PURE comes together to celebrate high standards of dance
in a growing community with an emphasis on connectedness and
collaboration.
PURE is collective of professional & amatuer dancers and drummers who
take music and dance out into the streets and theatres for the purposes of
healing and peace. Movements from ancient sacred world traditions including
Middle Eastern, Chinese, Romani gypsy, Israeli folk, Flamenco, Indian dance
and drumming are incorporated into the PURE experience. Dance and ritual
create community, drawing people together both emotionally and physically
into a shared sense of the divine. As the community participates, no one is
a stranger any longer.
In public happenings, dancers and musicians travel down the sidewalks
and public spaces to share their love of dance and music with the public
and to pay homage to specific sites. PURE's message is peace and healing
through dance and rhythm.
GO PURE (Greater Orlando Public Urban Ritual Experiment)
GO PURE is the Orlando branch of the international organization of
PURE, founded in New York City in 2004 by Kaeshi Chai and Darshan, aka:
Cammi Vance. As members of a PURE chapter, we are a part of something
bigger than just another group in town. We are part of an international
community of dancers who all know the Foundation Choreography, we can visit
other branches and participate, we can schedule simultaneous events around
the world to promote peace & healing through music and dance. We can
change the world with PURE one shimmy at a time!
GO PURE facilitators are:
Bhrigha,Belle Abbas, & Dana DeClerk ~ Dance Co-Facilitators and Martin
"Greywolf" Murphy & Mark DeMaio ~ Drum Co-Facilitators. Members are from
Orange, Seminole, Volusia, and Flagler counties. GO PURE performs at local
fundraisers to raise awareness for charities and also hosts "guerilla
happenings" in public spaces (with permission) to bring awareness of peace
and healing through ritual drum & dance.
Organizations that have benefited from GO PURE:
Defenders of Wildlife
Greenpeace International
Alley Cat Allies
American Cancer Society
